Born April 15, 1918 in Lynn, Mass. to Samuel and Fannie (Cohen) Freedman, Harry Freedman passed away peacefully April 2, 2011. He will be remembered for his honesty, warm smile and wonderful sense of humor. Harry moved to Canton at the age of three and attended Canton Public Schools, graduating from McKinley High School in 1936. He married Fannie Rosker of Massillon, March 19, 1939 and recently celebrated their 72nd anniversary. While raising their family in Massillon, Harry managed Rosker Auto Parts. He was active at the Massillon YMCA, Canton Jewish Center, and especially Shaaray Torah Synagogue, where he held several positions of responsibility, including President. He was a volunteer through AARP as an IRS trainer and tax preparer. He was a natural athlete. In his youth he played baseball, and was a diver for the Canton McKinley swim team. A competitor on the handball and racquet ball court, Harry golfed and swam into his 90s. Preceded in death by his daughter, Sheri Grossman. Survived by his wife Fannie, children Michael (Margaret), Stewart (Jane), son-in-law Ned Grossman. Six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Family, friends and faith carried him through his long and fruitful life. Funeral services will be held at the Shaaray Torah Synagogue, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 11:00 am, Interment will follow in Canton Hebrew Cemetery. Friends will be received at the family home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7-9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make all donations to Shaaray Torah Synagogue.
