Harriette M. Shew peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on November 17, 2016. Harriette (Hap) was born to John and Florence Orebaugh on January 15, 1930 in Norwalk, OH. Hap grew up spending many happy years in Norwalk and summers in Huron, OH at Chaska Beach. Hap attended Western College for Women and Wittenberg University graduating in 1953. On April 16, 1955, Hap married her high school sweetheart, William R. Shew. They moved to Massillon, OH and began their life together. In later years, Hap and Bill spent winters in Key Largo, FL.

Hap was a member of the DAR, the Massillon and Canton Garden Clubs, the Massillon Woman's Club and Brookside Country Club. Hap and Bill were also members of the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, FL and the Card Sound Golf Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother John Orebaugh, wife Jeune Orebaugh and sister Cynthia Montgomery. Survived by her children, Catherine S. Ripich and William (Chip) Shew, her son-in-law Dr. Robert J. Ripich and brother-in-law James Montgomery. Hap has five wonderful grandchildren: Alexandra M. Ripich Esq., William M. Shew, Dorothea (Annie) Shew, Russell P. Shew and John C. Shew.

An avid golfer, Hap and Bill spent many happy hours playing golf, especially at Card Sound Golf Club and Brookside Country Club. Hap's family and friends fondly remember her fabulous spirit, bright blues, and love for dining out.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Compassionate Care Center and Dr. Don Zimmerman for all their loving care.

A Celebration of Harriette's Life will be held Sunday, November 20th at 3:00 p.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Massillon, OH. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 prior to the Celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Hap's name to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 226 Third St. SE Massillon, OH 44646 and the Ocean Reef Medical Center, 50 Barracuda Lane, Key Largo, FL 33037.
