Obituary

Harold Resnick, 81, died surrounded by loved ones May 5 in Mercy Medical Center Hospice following years of medical complications.

Harold was a lifelong area resident and 1952 graduate of McKinley High School. He owned and operated the Audiphone Company of Canton for nearly 20 years, and loved being a professional salesman. He also sold cars at area dealerships, recruited for two art schools, and worked for a pre-internet introductions firm.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Resnick, brother Arnold Resnick, and wife of 24 years Lottie (Green) Resnick.

Harold is survived by long time life partner Sheri Meyers and her family, his children Eric Resnick, of Canton, Darrin and Sherri (Cobern) Resnick of New Albany, and Becky Resnick of Seattle, and grandsons Louis, Michael and Kevin of New Albany, brother Barry Resnick and sister-in-law Patti Resnick, of Canton, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Harold was a member of Temple Israel and American Legion Post 44. Previous memberships include the Ohio Hearing Aid Dealers Association, Jewish War Veterans, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Canton Lodge B'nai B'rith, Canton Ex-Newsboys, Sertoma Club of Canton, and Greater Canton Midget Football League as a director.

Harold loved football, especially McKinley football and the Browns, dancing and jazz, NASCAR racing, and he drove stock cars at Canton Motor Speedway. He cherished his social time at the Legion and places where he gathered with his friends.

Harold was especially fond and proud of his three grandsons and celebrated with them as often as possible. He took them fishing, and more recently shared with them and others, stories of his time in the Army.

Harold enlisted in the Army Security Agency for three years. Their primary mission was intercepting enemy military coded messages, and forwarding all intelligence directly to the National Security Agency.

Harold had a crypto top-secret clearance and was involved in compiling highly sensitive intelligence. He was stationed two years in Philippines, and was assigned numerous missions throughout the far east. He started as a morse code intercept operator, became very adept at identifying all types of coded messages, and was put in charge of identifying all transmissions intercepted in the area. North Vietnamese military was the primary mission.

Prior to, and during the Vietnam War, Harold's A.S.A. unit was responsible for saving hundreds of American and South Vietnamese lives and causing heavy damage to the North Vietnamese military.

The family expresses gratitude to Mercy Medical Center I.C.U. and Hospice for extraordinary care and concern.

Harold's cremains will be interred at a graveside service at North Lawn Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11. A celebration of Harold's life will follow at the American Legion, 1633 Cleveland Ave. NW. Rabbis Jon Adland and John Spitzer will officiate. All are welcome.

Harold was not a flowers kind of guy, and the family prefers they be left in the ground. Instead, please direct memorials to the Harold Resnick Memorial Fund to cover final costs, c/o Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave. North, Canton, Ohio 44714.
