Harlene Smuckler

Harlene Smuckler, age 94, of Canton passed away September 30, 2026. She was born in Canton on March 11, 1932, to the late Sam and Minnie (Hartman) Shifman and is a graduate of Canton McKinley High School class of 1950. Harlene was a lifetime member of Temple Israel, Hadassah, Temple Israel Sisterhood. She was also active locally with the Canton Preservation Society, Friends of the Library, and a former member of Walsh Women’s Committee.

Harlene is preceded in death by her husband Hershel Smuckler in 2015; siblings Robert Shifman, Catherine Shifman Rosenbloom, Florence Elaine Charkins, and Ida Mae Pullan.

She is survived by children Bill (Randi) Smuckler of Canton, Howard (Linda) Linda Smuckler of Canton, and Amy (Penny) Smuckler; grandchildren Megan Smuckler (Drew Devilbiss), Hillary (Gerard) O’Mallon, Meredith (Dave) Arnold, Samantha (William) Tortora, Cassandra Smuckler; great grandchildren Octavio Tortora, Luisa Tortora, Larkin Jackson, Stella Smuckler, Gwen Devilbiss, Max Devilbiss, Dyer O’Mallon, and Hewitt O’Mallon.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11 AM at Temple Israel with Rabbi David Komerofsky and Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
