Harlan William Frerking Jr. "Jay" age 63, of Hartville, passed away Saturday November 19, 2011 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on September 15, 1948 and graduated from Michigan State University with his PhD in Chemistry. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber in 2001. He was a long time member of the American Chemical Society and the Akron Polymer Lecture Group. He was an avid Boy Scout Leader for many years, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience. He was also active with First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance, OH, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He greatly enjoyed photography, and would often spend a long time setting up for the perfect shot. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Mary; children Harlan III "Bill" of Sterling, VA, Amanda and Laurence both of Hartville; father Harlan of Los Angeles, CA; siblings Margaret (Al Solish) Frerking of Los Angeles, Janet (Ed) Meisner of Branchville, NJ, Ed (Joyce Chen) Frerking of Sunnyvale, CA, and Erik Frerking of CA; other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Harlan's Life will be Saturday, December 3, from 1 to 4 in the afternoon, at First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance. Memorials may be made to Buckeye Council Boy Scouts.
