Obituary

Judge Gus W. Zielasko Gustave W. (Gus) Zielasko, age 92, of North Canton, passed away Monday morning, July 2, 2007 in Aultman Hospital. Born on June 15, 1915 in Canton to the late August and Marie (Gross) Zielasko. Gus graduated from Louisville High School, received his history degree from the College of Wooster and his Master's Degree in Education from the University of Michigan. During WW II, he served with the Army Counter Intelligence Corp. and was involved in Casablanca and the Invasion of Normandy D-Day. He was a high school teacher in Albuquerque, NM and a professor with the University of New Mexico Physical Education Department. He then attended McKinley Law School and graduated in 1950. Gus was associated with the law firm of Zielasko, Casner, Eberly and Gloss until he took the appointment of judge in 1981 with the Canton Municipal Court and later retired in 1988 and served as a retired judge for 10 years. He was a member of the Stark County and State of Ohio Bar Associations, Executives Retiree Club, Past-President of the North Canton Chamber of Commerce, North Canton Rotary, American Legion, Toastmasters Club and a lifetime member of the North Canton Elks. He served on the Board of Founders of the North Canton Student Loan Foundation, and the Selective Service Board. Former member of Oakwood Country Club. Preceded in death by a sister, Ida Rochus and a brother, Ernest Zielasko. Survived by his wife, Marilyn, with whom he celebrated fifty years of marriage, two daughters and sons-in-law Becky and Jeffrey Mulcahey, Tracy and William Curran, all of North Canton; son and daughter-in-law Douglas E. and Liza Zielasko of Mission Viejo, CA; brother-in-law John Rochus of Canton and sister-in-law Mary Zielasko of Hudson; eight grandchildren Seth, Lucas, Kyle, and Adrianne Zielasko, Erin and Andrew Mulcahey, Joseph and Thomas Curran. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 11:30 AM in the Arnold Funeral Home, Canton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:30 AM prior to the services.
