Grace Tate Ewing, age 87, of Canton, went to be reunited with her loved ones in Heaven on Thursday April 12, 2012. She was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey September 27, 1924 to the late Violet (Dotson) and Paul Polivy. Growing up in family owned hotels, she spent her summers in Atlantic City and winters in Miami, Florida. As a young child she took dancing lessons from Mr. Bojangles in Philadelphia. After graduating in 1942 from Miami High School (Florida), Grace attended Northwestern University in Chicago, where she graduated first in her dental hygiene class. While at Northwestern she met James Carney Tate and they married on June 10, 1944 in Chicago. After finishing her studies, Grace and Jim lived in San Diego, CA and New York City before making their home in Canton, Ohio in 1949. Grace and Jim had six children. Active in the Canton community, she was a member of the Junior League of Canton, Aultman Hospital Women's Board, Grey Lady Volunteers, past president of the Stark Co. Dental Society Women's Auxiliary, member of the Line and Design Garden Club and supporter of the arts including the Canton Symphony and Blossom Music Center. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir. After 50 years of marriage to Dr. James Tate, who passed away in 1994, Grace married Stanley Ewing in 1995. With Stanley, Grace became a Cleveland Indian's Fan, attended Canton Rotary Events, and joined the Church of the Savior, United Methodist. Stanley passed away in 2011. She was a past member of Congress Lake Country Club, The Canton Club, Glenmoor Country Club and Brookside Country Club. Grace enjoyed her family and loved to entertain. She was a gourmet cook and talented knitter. Grace was a style setter, glamorous dresser and wore her high heels to Heaven. Preceded in death by her son Craig Dotson Tate; sister Violet Burn; husbands James and Stanley; and grandson Cpl. Jacob A. Tate, USMC. She is survived by her children, Polly and Doug Barr of Bath, MI; Paul and Tracie Tate of Castle Rock, CO; James and Janice Tate of Columbus; Heather and Jeff Fisher of Canton and Thomas and Melanie Tate of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Michael, James, Tiffany, Alex, Tarrah, Josh, Jamie, Jonathan, Amy, Jeremy, Alexander, Maxwell and Taylor; eight great-grandchildren; and niece Joan and Earl Mitman of Gainesville, FL. She is survived by Stanley's children David Ewing, James Ewing, John Ewing and Barbara Cockroft and their families. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3-7 PM at the Arnold Funeral Home, Canton. Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Jerome H. Colgrove officiating. Final resting place is Forest Hill Cemetery.
