Gertrude E. Kalk, age 86, died Monday evening in Mercy Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Zimmerman, MN to the late Louis and Wilhelmine (Mueller) Heuer she met and married her husband Rev. Willard L. Kalk in Columbus while he was attending Lutheran Seminary. Together they served parishes in Dayton, OH, Richmond and Ft. Wayne, IN, Cleveland, Canton and Fair Port Harbor, OH. Gertrude was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she had been active in the choir and the Ladies Aid Society. She had also been a former volunteer at Mercy Medical Center. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Willard L. Kalk and a brother Rev. Bernard Heuer. Survivors include a daughter: Mrs. Thomas (Karen) Okey of Canton. Two sons: Karl D. Kalk of Massillon and Kelvin (Denise) Kalk of Raleigh, NC. Four grandchildren: Kaitlin, Keegan, Kollin and Kameron. Two sisters-in-law: Marilyn Bliss of Fremont, OH and Betty Heuer of Whiting, NJ. Funeral service will be Sunday 3:00 P.M. in First Lutheran Church with Rev. George E. Keeler officiating. Interment will be in Sandusky, OH on Monday. Friends may call on Saturday from 3 to 5 P.M. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. and one hour prior to the service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church 909 Tuscarawas St. E. Canton, OH 44707.
