Dr. Gerald Firestone, age 92, of North Canton, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015, in Windsor Medical Center. He was born April 22, 1922 in Akron to Albert and Evelyn (Miller) Firestone. Gerald graduated from Ohio State University School of Optometry and was a WW II Army Veteran having served in France and Germany. He was a member of Temple Israel, B'Nai B'Rith, the Canton Jewish Community Center, was an avid reader and traveler. Dr. Firestone was an accomplished tennis and ping pong player. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marion in 2000. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Firestone and Richard Goren of Newtonville, MA.; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Esther Firestone; grandchildren, Aliza Firestone Goren, Jordana Goren (Adam) Fein, Nathan Firestone, Emily Firestone Bish and his companion of 12 years, Florence Harshman. Funeral services will be Friday 11:00 am January 16th at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton with Rabbi A.J. Kushner officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
