IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George
Resnick
June 5, 1909 – March 30, 2008
George Resnick of Canton, age 98, died peacefully and surrounded by family at Green Meadows Health and Wellness Center on March 30, having lived a rich life. George was born in Radoshkovichi, a village near Minsk now the capital of Belarus, to Benjamin and Henya. He was the youngest of seven children. The journey to meet the ship to America in Belgium was largely traveled on foot over years, during which George survived an attack by Polish soldiers in Warsaw, though a brother and uncle did not. He arrived in Ellis Island in 1922 with three sisters and was given the birth date of June 5, 1909, then came to Canton to join his father, a sister, and cousins. George loved Canton and attended South Market elementary school. He lived most of his life here with brief moves to New York and Sarasota, Florida. George sold the Plain Dealer and Canton Daily News on the streets of downtown Canton as a youth, then ran Louis' Market before retiring from the Stark County Engineer and managing Kirby Shoes of Massillon. He first married Helen Williams and had three sons. He later married Martha "Pat" Crum. George was a member of the Metro Club, the Canton Ex-Newsboys, Agudas Achim Synagogue, Temple Israel, the Canton Jewish Center, and the Democratic Party, where he was once an elected precinct committeeman. After retirement he was a daily walker at Stadium Park, where he enjoyed the company of those he met there. He loved people, baseball, boxing, and trained golden gloves fighters. Late in life he loved to travel. George is preceded in death by his parents, brother Avrum Resnick, sisters Goldie Sandler and Reva Ostroff of New York, Freidel Resnick, Sadie Sabroff of Canton, wives Pat and Helen, and daughter-in-law Lottie Resnick. He is survived by sons Harold, Arnold, Barry and daughter-in-law Patti Resnick, all of Canton, grandchildren Eric Resnick, Todd and Amy Resnick of Canton, Darrin and Sherri Resnick of New Albany, Becky Resnick of Seattle, and Andrea Resnick of Las Vegas, great grandchildren Louis, Michael, Kevin and Gabriella, and many friends. The family is grateful to the staff of Green Meadows for the thoughtfulness and fine care given during the last stage of George's journey through life. The family will receive friends Wednesday 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Arnold funeral Home in Canton, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Canton Ex-Newsboys, Aultman Hospice, or Canton Parks Fund. Canton Ex-Newsboys Association P.O.
