George R. Gran, age 103, of Hartville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday September 11, 2017. He was born in Youngstown, OH on February 14, 1914 to the late John and Anna (Sekerak) Gran. After graduating from Memorial High School in Campbell, he was a Medical Corps Sergeant at base hospitals on the Alaska Islands Amchitka and Kodiak. After his service he attended Ohio University for pre-med and George Washington University for medical training. He met a student nurse Peggy Blasco and they married on December 7, 1941. Returning to Youngstown he built and operated a family owned Theater. Then moved to Akron where he built Gran Lanes in Akron and purchased Portage Lakes Lanes in Akron and later built Gran Lanes of Youngstown. Moving to Hartville, he purchased and operated Seven Hills Country Club. He was a member of The Chapel in Marlboro.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years Peggy; sons and daughters-in-law Cary and Christine Gran and Dick and Debra Gran; 3 grandchildren Christopher (Tiffany) Gran, Allicen (Kenneth) Grose, Joel Gran; 4 great-grandchildren Zade and Harlow Gran, Addison and Holden Grose; sister Helene (Donald) Salreno; sisters-in-law Eloise Gran and Delores Gran. Preceded in death by brothers William and Edward Gran.
A private family service will be held Thursday with Pastor Joel Cochran officiating. Final resting place is Mount Peace Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, New Philadelphia, OH.
