George Dragovich, age 96, of Canton, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 after a brief illness. George was born January 23, 1920 in Canton to the late Ilija and Amelia (Wucinic) Dragovich. He was a 1938 McKinley High School graduate, soon after joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and was assigned to Pocatello, Idaho. He then came home to work at the Timken Company. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, was assigned to the AM Theater USA, and was later stationed in the Panama Canal. He returned home in 1945 to continue working at the Timken Company. In 1947, George went to college on the G.I. Bill at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He married his loving wife, Donica, in August of 1948. As George finished school, Donica continued to work as a nurse at a local hospital. After graduation, George acquired a teaching job in the Canton City School District, retiring in 1979. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of Wm. McKinley Lodge #431 F & AM and a member of AASR Valley of Canton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donica "Della" (Yelic) Dragovich; sisters, Helen, Anne, Bertha, Dorothy, and Alice; brothers, Samuel, Nicholas, and William. He is survived by children, George Dragovich, Jr. of Hartville, Steve Dragovich of Scottsdale, Arizona, Andrea (Michael) Bantz and Alexis Dragovich of Canton; granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Paul) Dunlap, Sarah Dragovich, and Rachel Dragovich; and great grandchildren, Carson and Lily who he truly adored. "Poppy" will be missed greatly by all. Private services were held by Pastor Ryan Johnston of The Chapel in North Canton at Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home. Entombment with full military honors honoring George's service was held in the chapel of North Lawn Mausoleum. He will rest eternally in the Rose Mausoleum of North Lawn Cemetery.
