George W. Ackerman, age 92,of Canton died Monday morning in Aultman Hospital. Born in Cleveland, OH to the late Michael and Rose Ackerman he was retired from Babcock & Wilcox. George was a member of McKinley Lodge # 431 F & Am, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Moose and Eagles Lodge. An avid golfer George played for many years at Highland Country Club (Skyland Pines) and golfed with many of the pros of his day. In his later years George enjoyed frequenting Casino's. A loving father, grandfather and friend he will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Anne in 1989 and two brothers. He is survived by a daughter: Mrs. James (Brenda) Sommer of N. Canton. Two sons: Robert (Lolita) and William (Patsy) Ackerman all of Canton. Seven grandchildren: Tiffany, Danielle, Scott, Greg, Misty, Christine and Monica. Ten great grandchildren: Justin, Mathew, Erika, Nicole, April, Kirstin, Anthony, Malea, Mathew and Andrew. Six great great grandchildren: Emy, Nicholas, Christopher, Matt, Miha and Billy. Funeral service will be Friday 11:00 A.M. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W with Pastor Gregory G. Ackerman officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 -7 PM. A Masonic service will be Thursday 6:45 PM
