Genevieve May (Vanderbilt) Burgoon went home to her Heavenly Father on the morning of April 22nd, 2018 joining her devoted husband of 40 years Earl Dean Burgoon and beloved son Donald (Mary Ann). Genevieve was born in 1921 to the late E. Lee and Louise (Whitzky) Vanderbilt in Lexington, Ohio and grew up on a farm where she cultivated her tenacity. She was a faithful member of the Grace Brethren Church and a breast cancer survivor. Genevieve was a treasured mother and beloved grandmother. She is fervently cherished and revered by her family as their Angel, Hero and Matriarch. She is survived by her daughters Marcia Torrence and Cheryl (Bruce) Humbert of North Canton, her grandchildren Jerrod Torrence, Kyle (Samantha) Humbert, Michael Torrence, Nina (Mike) Hampton, Jessica Humbert, Ariel Burgoon, Brittany Torrence and Rachel Humbert; her two younger siblings Mary Terry and Robert Vanderbilt and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Genevieve graduated from Lexington High School in 1939. After graduation, she was a quality control inspector at a bomb plant in Mansfield, OH during WWII. Later, she worked as a dental hygienist and traveled. On December 30th, 1950 she married Earl Dean Burgoon and they were together until his death in 1990. Genevieve worked alongside her husband and supported his entrepreneurial ambitions, including starting Bur-Built Products now known as Performance Friction Corporation (PFC). She led with boundless love, a generous dose of spunk and was a selfless caregiver. She lived her life as an example of love and giving to the end. Her profound spirit continues with us as we aim to live our lives by her example. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4-7:00 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton. Funeral services will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Cosentino officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
