Obituary

Gary Bradford McBride: loving father, brother and son, peacefully passed on Friday, October 24, 2014. Gary's long and courageous battle against melanoma came to an end but his spirit continues to live in our hearts. Gary is survived by his grandson, Gary and two children Brad and Holly McBride. He is also survived by his father, Neal McBride and siblings: Nancy Schick, Kevin McBride, Melinda Graat and David McBride. He is preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jenkins-McBride. Gary never met a challenge he could not tackle. Gary was born deaf, learned to become a masterful lip-reader as a child; and despite his handicap, he excelled in life. Gary was a proud lip reader and proud of his ability to overcome communication barriers in a hearing world. Deaf Power! Gary is a football player at heart. He started playing football as a boy for the Niles Little Red Dragons, becoming a hometown pride until he graduated Niles McKinley in 1970 with All State recognition. Gary only played DEFENSE and he would let you know that any chance he had. Gary continued that same success at Bowling Green State University as an All American on a full scholarship. He earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering and became a 3-D CAD/ CAM designer in Lakeland, Florida soon after graduation. Gary's enthusiasm for life and sense of humor strengthened his belief that he could accomplish anything that he desired, despite the obstacles that life presented him. He raised a family with his college sweetheart, Lori Smith Flagg, coached many sports and enjoyed an active outdoor lifestyle. Gary's family and friends will forever cherish the joyful memories of his "larger than life" personality. DEFENSE! DEFENSE! DEFENSE! Funeral service will be Friday 1:00 P.M. Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. Canton, OH. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M.
