Frederick W. "Fritz" Byers, DDS, age 86, of Hartville passed away Saturday night March 27, 2010 at St. Luke Lutheran Home. He was born in Canton on May 1, 1923 to the late Lester and Pearl Edith (Fredericks) Byers and graduated from McKinley High School in 1941. He and both his brothers served their country during WW II. Fritz served in the Navy from 1942-1945. He received his degree from the College of Dentistry, Ohio State University in 1955 and retired from his practice in 2003. He was a 50 year member of Canton Lodge No. 60, F. & A.M., Canton Valley Scottish Rite and Tadmor Shrine. Dr. Byers also served as a special deputy at the Summit Co. Sherriff's Training Academy. He was an avid outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish. He especially took great joy in hunting with his son and their dogs. He was proud of all of his children. Preceded in death by twin brother Charles and older brother Raymond; and infant daughter Katherine Rose. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Gaylene and Pete Tsipis of Cincinnati, Jody and Mark Roliff of Randolph, Jeanne and Ed Hastings of Bolivar; son, Brian Byers of Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Arnold Funeral Home Hartville. A Masonic Service will be held Wednesday 5:45 PM. Funeral services are Thursday 11 AM in the funeral home. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery. The family would like to express gratitude to the staff at St. Luke's for their care and to Dr. Leonard Tamburro.
