Frances M. (Theiss) Shirk, age 83, of North Canton, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 at St. Luke Lutheran Community after a brief illness. One of seven children born to the late Michael & Katharina (Wonner) Theiss, Fran was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and a long-time member of Oakwood Country Club where she won numerous ladies' championships. Fran was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who was loved by all who knew her. She was a warm, patient and kind person who always gave of herself to others. A gracious hostess who enjoyed music, travel, crafts, sports, and most importantly spending time with her family, Fran will live forever in our hearts. Fran was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Claus, Dorothy Bundy and Hilda Thomas; and two brothers, Henry and John Theiss. Survivors include her husband and best friend of 63 years, Sherwood G. "Woody" Shirk; two daughters, Mrs. Todd (Debbie) Jagger and Mrs. Jeffrey (Susan) Eastman; and two sons, Mr. David (Darlene) Shirk and Mr. Thomas (Lori) Shirk. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Matthew, Katie and Rachel Eastman and Lindsay and Adam Shirk; sister, Elizabeth Haese; sister-in-laws, Madge Schlemmer and Anna Theiss; and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with Fran's wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Community, 220 Applegrove St. NE, North Canton, OH 44720 or to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E Green, OH 44685.
