Florence Fleisher Fleisher, Florence Pauline (Jacobson) Age 92, of Beachwood, OH Do not stop to gather flowers to keep them but walk on, for flowers will keep themselves blooming all your way. --Tagore Beloved daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on January 6, at Menorah Park in Beachwood, OH at the age of 92. Born on January 20, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Emma (Simon) Jacobson and Joseph Jacobson of Canton, OH. In the 1940's, prior to her marriage, Florence's sense of adventure and independent spirit led her to New York City where she worked as a secretary and telephone switchboard operator. In 1946, Florence had a blind date with the man who would become her husband, Meyer G. Fleisher of Brownsville, PA, who preceded her in death in July of 2002. They were married for nearly fifty-six years. Florence and Meyer enjoyed traveling to numerous European destinations, including Israel in 1989. During the first decade of their marriage, Florence and Meyer spent many happy years living in Alliance, OH. The family business, Friendly Furniture, located on Main Street, remained a thriving operation for thirty-six years. Always considering Canton, Ohio as her true home, Florence was delighted to return to her cherished roots with her family in 1957. She remained in Canton until her husband's passing - at which time she moved to Beachwood, OH. A 1933 graduate of Canton McKinley High School, Florence served on the planning committee for her high school Golden Reunion in 1983. The event was the talk of the town, thanks in part to Florence's attention to detail and sophisticated party planning style. Florence was preceded in death by her brothers, Reuben F. Jacobson, Richard Jacobson, and Dr. William H. Jacobson, M.D., and sisters, Nettie Jacobson and Rose Jacobson Greene. Florence is survived by her daughters, Emily Audra Fleisher of Stow, OH and Lynn (Steven) Gardner of Beachwood, OH; also surviving are her three devoted and loving grandsons, Jeffrey Sigmund Gardner of Chicago, IL, Aaron Robert Gardner of New York City and Alexander Daniel Gardner of Columbus, OH; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved and cherished. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Leslie Bass, Florence's home health aide at Menorah Park. Leslie's unconditional love, compassion, support and encouragement mean more than words can express. Florence was a life-long member of Temple Israel of Canton. Funeral services will be held at the Temple at Noon on Thursday, January 8. Rabbi Leah M. Herz and Rabbi John H. Spitzer officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Gardner Residence, 2182 Halcyon Road in Beachwood from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday; 1-4 p.m. on Friday and from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Florence's memory be made to Temple Israel, 333 -25th Street NW, Canton, Ohio 44709-3999.
