Evelyn Wise Blackburn Brigham, age 95, passed away Monday November 14, 2011 at the Windsor Medical Center. She was born in Canton on July 15, 1916, a daughter of the late W. Clark Wise and Honora McKinney Wise. Evelyn graduated from McKinley High School and Ohio University. She taught kindergarten for many years in the Canton Public Schools including Allen, Mason, Harter, Cedar, Lathrop and Baxter where she continued to volunteer for several years after her retirement. She was a published poet enjoying poetry and art her entire life. Evelyn was active in and was a charter member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Alumnae Association, The Canton Women's Club, Trirosis, DAR, The McKinley Auxiliary, The Retired Teachers Association and the Dueber United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years and was a member of the Trailblazer Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell E. Blackburn in April of 1977 and by her second husband William H. Brigham in March of 2002, a sister Bernice L. Williams and a brother, Professor Kenneth G. Wise. Evelyn is survived by her sons Dr. William D. Blackburn of Columbus, OH and Thomas R. Blackburn (Theresa Needham) of New York City, NY; granddaughter Abigail Blackburn (Ryan) Payne of Dove Canyon, CA; step-daughters Barbara (Charles) Green and Susan (Dr. Leonard) Krajewski all of Cleveland, OH, and step-grandchildren Richard Green, Cheryl (Dr. Michael) Nemunaitis, Sara and Kevin Krajewski and five great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Saturday, November 19, 2011, at 1:00 pm at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave. N., Canton, OH, with The Rev. Dr. Richard C. Crossman (her niece's husband) and Dr. Chet Harris officiating. Friends may call Friday from 6-8:00 pm and one hour prior to the services, from 12-1:00 pm on Saturday.
