Eugenia G. Shew, age 94, of North Canton, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021, of the Covid virus. Eugenia was born in Canton to the late Virgil and Olive (Berrodin) Whitmer. She graduated from Lehman High School in 1945, and attended Cleveland School of Art 1945-1947, graduating with an Associate Degree in Fine Art. Eugenia then found work at Stern & Mann's clothing store, making hats in their Millinery Department. In 1950 she married Phillip E. Gibbs and became a homemaker. Eugenia was an expert dress maker/tailor, with a passionate love of fashion. She also enjoyed theater, travel, the company of her friends, gardening, and was a devout Roman Catholic. In addition to her parent's, she was preceded in death by husbands, Phillip E. Gibbs and C. Frank Shew; brothers, Thomas Whitmer and James Whitmer. Eugenia is survived by her daughters Jennifer Gibbs Carson and Natalie Gibbs Blair. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 11:00AM in the Basilica of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Very Reverend John E. Sheridan, S.T.L. Rector, serving as celebrant. Interment will follow the funeral mass, at St. John's Cemetery on Cleveland Avenue. Due to the current resurgence of the Covid 19 virus and variants, there will be no calling hours, wake or reception following her burial.  There will be immuno-compromised family members at both the funeral mass and burial, and for this reason those attending are asked to please wear a mask, and conform to the social distancing protocols (6 feet apart from others) already in place.
