Ethel Schmidt, age 100, of Canton, went home to be with the Lord Monday March 24, 2008. She was born around Chillicothe, Ohio on March 16, 1908 to the late William and Lena Hanning. Ethel was a member of Fairhope United Methodist Church. Those who knew Ethel will miss her tremendous generosity. She made certain that those who visited her never left hungry. She also loved God's creatures, and gave generously to causes supporting and preserving wildlife. Ethel was an avid gardener and decorator, who enjoyed sharing her yard full of flowers, and her beautifully decorated apartment with anyone who passed by. Ethel was preceded in death by her first husband Jay Coppley, second husband Harvey Schmidt, her step son Harvey "Raymond" Schmidt, and three brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Richard Moody of Louisville; daughter-in-law Donna Schmidt of Kentucky; grandchildren, Tom & Linda Moody of Massillon, Linda & Steve Donant of Bolivar, Daniel & Pam Moody of East Sparta, Steve Schmidt of Illinois, Betty Miller, Kathy Manning, and David Schmidt, each of Kentucky; great-grandchildren Seth, Joel, Kara and Megan Moody, Nicole Donant, Joshua, Brianna and Jacob Moody, Jeremy and Lance Schmidt, Christina Miller, Ashley and Russell Manning; and one great-great grandchild, Kyle. Friends may call Wednesday 9-10 AM in the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave.,N, Canton. Funeral Services are Wednesday 10 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Sanders officiating.
