Estelle Wilkof Blau a talented pianist and educator with an uncompromising sense of style and commitment to family and community, Estelle Rebecca Wilkof Blau was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend who died Saturday, April 12 at the age of 92. At age 14, she began to date the love of her life, 16-year-old Alan B. Blau with whom she celebrated 53 years of marriage prior to his death in 2005. The consummate volunteer, Estelle lent her talents to many Canton area organizations including The Canton Symphony Orchestra, Temple Israel, The Canton Chapter of Hadassah, the Stark County Retired Teachers Association, Lehman High School Alumni Association, the YWCA Women's Hall of Fame Judge Committee, Israeli Performing Arts Concert Series, Young Artists Competition, United Arts Fund (now Arts in Stark), Canton Preservation Society, Palace Theater Association and Art Film Club, Canton Museum of Art, College Club of Canton, Order of Eastern Star, The McKinley Museum, and Delta Kappa Gamma. In addition to her husband, Estelle was preceded in death by her parents Elsie (nee Meister) and Samuel Wilkof, and by her brother Raymond G. Wilkof and sister-in-law Rosetta Alpiner Wilkof, by her sister Florence Wilkof Winston and brother-in-law Irving Winston, and by her sister-in-law Judith Elsa Blau. Estelle is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Edward Benjamin Blau II and Laura Wise Blau of Columbus, daughter and son-in-law Shelley and Robert Schweitzer of North Canton; grandchildren Hannah Blau of Columbus, Abram Blau of Providence, RI; and Adam (Julia Potter) Schweitzer of Toronto, Ontario and great-grandchildren Benjamin Alan and Rebecca Estelle Schweitzer, of Toronto; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. EDT at Temple Israel, 432 – 30th Street NW, Canton with Rabbis David Komerofsky and John Spitzer officiating.
