Ervin Helmuth, age 96, of Hartville, Ohio went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday March 11th, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 22nd, 1929, in Hartville, Ohio to the late Andrew and Nettie (Schlabach) Helmuth. Raised in Hartville, he met his late wife Mary (Shrock) at a local church hymn sing event. Together, they had 4 children. The couple invested many years together in Union City, PA, as dairy farmers. Ervin was a man of great faith, and it showed up through his actions, words, and heart.
He taught each of his children the value of hard work and walking out your relationship with God. These values were also passed down to his grandchildren as they grew up observing his example of a loving, godly father and grandfather. Aside from his incredible work ethic, he also had a very humorous side to him as he was always quick to crack a joke at any moment.
During their time in Pennsylvania, Ervin and Mary were members of Valley View Mennonite church. In 2003, they sold their farm and came home to Hartville to semi-retire where they attended Hartville Mennonite church (now Evermore Community Church).
Ervin will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved him but today he is rejoicing in Heaven with his wife Mary, his son Tommy, and daughter Rosemary.
He is survived by his children Norma J (Reuben) Stoltzfus, Steve Helmuth (Joy Roth), son in-law Steve Wolf; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Preceded in death by his wife Mary (Shrock) Helmuth, daughter Rosemary L (Steve) Wolf, son Thomas E Helmuth; siblings Barbara (Walter) Byler, Alvin Helmuth, Emma Helmuth, Samuel Helmuth, Andrew Helmuth Jr., Wilma (Wallace) Troyer, Orva Helmuth.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Evermore Community Church, 1470 Smith Kramer St NE, Hartville, OH 44632. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ross Miller officiating. Burial will be held at the church cemetery following the service.
