Ernest Delbert Larrick

Ernest Delbert Larrick, age 100, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 14, 2017. He passed away surrounded by family at The Landing of Canton after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born June 7, 1917 at the home of Ernest and Nettie (Olden) Larrick in Cambridge, Ohio. Delbert graduated from Old Washington High School in 1935 and married Clara (McMillen) Larrick. They were married 61 years before her passing 2001. He served his country in the Navy during World War II, stationed in Japan and the Philippines aboard the USS Cebu. He was also a pioneer in the plastics industry as an engineer for Reynolds Spring Co., Continental Can Co., and Central Plastics in Cambridge then General Industries in Elyria. He later became a sales engineer for Plastics Engineering of Sheboygan. The family moved to Jackson Township in 1976, and Delbert retired in 1982.

Delbert was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and became active at Faith United Methodist Church of North Canton in 1976, where he served as a trustee for many years. He is a 60-year member of the American Legion Post #44 and was active in Lake Grange #1744. An avid fisherman and gifted farmer, Delbert shared a legacy of love and knowledge of nature with three generations of daughters, granddaughters, great-grandsons, and his beloved nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his daughters, Clarice (Chris) Larrick of Annapolis, MD and Clareen (Gay) Larrick of Canton; granddaughters, Kristen Cummings of Narragansett, RI and Kathleen (Katie) Larrick of Alexandria, VA; great-grandsons, Chase Laccinole, age 13 and Cooper Larrick-Greenwood, age 11. Delbert was the oldest of seven children. His surviving sisters are Dorothy Bennett of Cambridge, Velma Hood of Columbus, and Shirley Tidrick of Hilliard. Siblings Gladys McBride, Ruth Turner, and Paul Larrick are deceased. The Larrick siblings shared a lifetime of family gatherings and traditions.

A funeral service to celebrate Delbert's life will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Cara Stultz Costello officiating. Interment will be in Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, Ohio. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday (TODAY) in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. and one hour prior to the service in church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Delbert's name to the Faith United Methodist Church Memorial Fund 300 9th Street N.W., North Canton, Ohio 44720. Please sign the guest book.
