Obituary

EMMETT DEAN LORSON, 86 Born January 21, 1923, Dean departed this life for eternal peace on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. He was very special to all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Dean resided at Bethany Nursing Home for the past two years where he received the most excellent and loving care from all of the staff. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emily Elizabeth (Schmid) Lorson and Carl J. Lorson, and his brother, James Lorson of La Habra, California. Dean graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 1941. During World War II he served in the Army with the 199th Anti-Aircraft Battalion, participating in the Solomon Islands campaign from September 1943 until September 1945 on the islands of Guadalcanal, Bougainville and Leyte. He returned home to Canton in January 1946. Dean married Muriel Wiseman on November 28, 1946. He attended Akron University and during his career worked for Babcock Printing Press, Talon Zipper, Goodyear Aerospace, and The Hoover Company, from which he retired in 1987. Dean is survived by his wife Muriel of Bethany Nursing Home, children Barbara Lorson Roderick (Willard) of North Canton, Richard Carl Lorson of Reno, NV, grandchildren Hilary McHenry (Scott) of Canton, Nathan Roderick of Columbus, Amelia Lorson and Jared Lorson of Reno, NV, sister-in-law Joan Lorson of La Habra, California and numerous special nieces and nephews. Dean was a life-long member of First Church of the Resurrection. He served on the Consistory as a Deacon, Elder and Vice President, and was Chairman of the Property Committee for many years. Dean was a Mason in William McKinley Lodge No. 431, F&AM Scottish Rite, and a member of the Nazir Grotto. He was a member of American Legion, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dean's smile and good nature will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched daily. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents of Bethany Nursing Home for their prayers, love and support during Deans stay there. Friends and family may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Arnold Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at First Church of the Resurrection, 901 East Tuscarawas St., Canton, Ohio on Friday at 11 am with visitation one hour prior to the service with Dr. Clifford Price officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. A Masonic service will be held on Thursday evening at 5:45 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or by doing a good deed for someone else in need.
