IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emma Jean
Miller
March 8, 1927 – December 17, 2018
Emma Jean Miller was born March 8th, 1927 in Uhrichsville, Ohio to John Thompson & Florence Baker. She came into this world how she left, a tough cookie. Caught somewhere between the greatest generation and the silent generation, she was in fact a part of the population who married in record numbers and gave birth to another distinctive generation, the Baby Boomers. She stayed true to the values of personal responsibility, duty, honor, and faith. Her coming of age story was one of hardship and strength, as she spent a number of years in the Dover Children's home, before coming into her own as a young, working, Rosie the Riveter type at the Spun Steel metal supplier in Canton, Ohio. While toiling away at the machine press, a young navy man by the name of Carl Miller approached her and courted her into what would become a 58-year marriage. A marriage that begot five children, twelve grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. Jean was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple for a number of years. In addition to this, she spent her days tending to the needs of hearth and home for the good of her family; making delicious food, encouraging her grandkids to showcase their talents and skills, and playing a good hand of rummy with whoever had time to spare. Jean is survived by children, David (Pam) Miller, Darlene Westrich, Diana (William) Peabody, Darrell (Sherra) Miller. Preceded in death by her husband, Carl Miller; son, Danny Miller. She is also survived by the many grandchildren previously mentioned. Jean will be remembered for her kindness, her love, and her playful nature. Funeral service will be 12 noon Friday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 710 Tuscarawas St. W. with Rev. Susan Tiffany officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for you to wear the color blue, Jean's favorite color, to services in her honor.
