Obituary

E.H. "Heinie" Cassler, 92, departed this life on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at his home. A native of Canton, he was born August 24, 1921 to George and Augusta (Fleishour) Cassler. Attended Lehman High School, then was a 1939 graduate of Jackson High School. He attended Kent State University prior to joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. Mr. Cassler became a skilled pilot, and served as a flight instructor in B-25 bombers at Moody Field, GA. He was later assigned to the P-38 aircraft, in which he did photo reconnaissance as a secret mission in preparation for the invasion of Japan. Following World War II, he served in the Air Force Reserves until retiring in 1968 as a Lt. Colonel. He continued his education at Mt. Union College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio Northern University with a degree in Pharmacology in 1949. Mr. Cassler was employed by Finney's Pharmacy until 1955, when he changed careers and joined his father-in-law in the printing business at the Klingstedt Brothers Company. He served there is numerous capacities, including its president for 20 years until his retirement in 1995. He was a long-time member of many organizations, including the Rotary Club of Canton, American Legion, Canton Elks #68, Eagles Aerie #2370, the Fulton Flying Club, Ducks Unlimited, Brookside Country Club, Boy Scout Troop #4, the Meyers Lake Ski Club, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Mr. Cassler was very devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William, Harold and Donald Cassler, sister Eunice Lobb. He is survived by Janet Cassler, sons Jim (Karen) and John (Lisa) Cassler, daughter Nancy Suba, grandchildren Victoria and Johnathan Suba, Brian and Andrew Cassler, niece Dawn Cassler Schmitz, and several nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregivers, and to Crossroads Hospice for their loving support and care. Memorials can be made to Crossroads Hospice of Green or the Stark County Humane Society. Friends may call Thursday, March 13 from 6 - 8:00 PM at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton.
