IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ella Lucille
Foltz
May 30, 1912 – March 1, 2017
Ella Lucille Foltz, age 104, of New Baltimore, Ohio, joined loved ones on March 1, 2017. Beyond her chronological age, Ella's strength of character, belief in humanity and kindness lighted her path through life. Family and friends outnumbered her years. Her parents, Carl and Metha Johnson, arrived from Denmark as teenagers, became American citizens and gave our country Ernest Johnson, Ruby Collier and Carl Johnson. Carl, a WWII veteran, carries on. Ella was baptized and confirmed at the now historical Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, graduated from the new McKinley High School and married Arthur Foltz on New Year's Eve, 1932. Daughters, Shirley Lab, Marlene Albrecht, Joyce Foltz and Kay Free reside in the U.S. Ella's Viking heritage was reflected in strong swimming skills, being game for any type of boating (including canoes). Ella was nicknamed "The Great Dane" and was a great euchre player, musically talented (taking lessons as a child), played the piano, danced, wrote poetry as she sat and looked across from farm fields, traveled extensively (Canada, Rockies, Lake Louise, etc.), read historical works and presidential memoirs, collected and grew unusual plants and flowers i.e. mock orange, prize roses and tamaracks, and did delicate embroidery work (began sewing at age 3). She was member and past President of Loyal Neighbor's Club, had previous Grange and Randolph Garden Club memberships, and was present member of Moose Chapter 540 Ravenna (carrying on father's tradition). Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 710 Tuscarawas St. W. with The Rev. Dr. Bruce R. Roth. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Louisville.
