Edward J. McFadden, age 86, passed away Monday May 7, 2012 at Green Meadows Nursing Home. Preceded in death by his parents William and Mildred McFadden, wife of 60 years Mary and sister Betty Hudson. He was an avid carpenter and worked with his father in Hessel, Michigan building several summer homes for people from Ohio on the Islands. He moved his family to Hartville in 1958 where he worked for Kamerer and Sons, and maintained the home for H. B. Stewart (now known as Quail Hollow State Park). He later opened his business McFadden Remodeling until he retired. He is survived by his daughters Nancy (Ron) Glendening, MaryBeth (Bill) Tolbert, grandchildren Ginny (Jeff) Gendelman, Beth Ann (Greg) Emley, Donald Tolbert; great-grandchildren Megan and Sara Gendelman, Jessica, Ben, Jake Emley, Raelynn, Zachary and Jenna Tolbert; sister Ann (Cleon) Moss; and several nieces and nephews. He joined the Army in 1943 and served in World War II until 1946. He was honorably discharged as a Private in the Army. He served in the 47th Engineers Platoon, servicing in the South Pacific. He spent 11 months in Saipan and the rest of the time in Okinawa. He had the honor a few years ago to go on the Honor Flight where WW II Veterans were flown to Washington, D.C. to see the World War II Memorial. He was a life member of the VFW, during which time he was very active and held several offices. He loved his dogs and working around his home. He enjoyed making tree houses for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always there for you when you needed him and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. To celebrate Edward's Life, the family will receive friends Thursday 5-7 PM at Arnold Funeral Home Hartville and services will begin at 7PM. The family wishes to thank the staff at Green Meadows for all the wonderful care and support over the years, along with Crossroad Hospice.
