Edna Blough Miller, age 88, of Hartville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday March 19, 2015. She was born on January 30, 1927 in Hutchinson, Kansas to the late John and Lizzie (Miller) Nisly. She was an example of a woman who persevered with strength from God. Preceded in death by her husband Robert Samuel Blough, husband Noah Miller, son Ron Blough, son-in-law Keith LaTulippe, and sister Frances Nisly. She is survived by her children Brenda LaTulippe, Rhoda (Miller) Blough, Dwayne (Pam) Blough, Delores Blough; grandchildren Bethany (John) Simpson, Brooke Blough, Faith (John) Briscoe, Samuel (Mindy) Blough, Kuron Blough, Christina Blough; 4 great-grandchildren Ian and Shane Simpson, Abraham Briscoe and Connor Blough; siblings Al (Catherine) Nisly, Ralph (Jan) Nisly, Elsie Bliler, Norman Nisly, Ellen (Leon) King, Alma (Melvin) Miller, Ruby (Joe) Schrock, Lorene (Owen) Coblentz, John (Karen) Nisly; and many nieces and nephews. Edna B. devoted her life to serving others in many ways over the years: delivering Meals on Wheels, serving as a cashier at the Gift and Thrift Shop, working with Serving Opportunities for Older Persons, driving friends and the elderly to doctors' appointments, crocheting plastic bags for Haven of Rest's Harvest Home, cooking for summer work groups with Serving With Appalachian People, and making relief bags by the hundreds for MCC. As a single parent of four young children with an eighth grade education, she worked in the basket factory, then as a nurse's aid at St. Luke's Lutheran Home, where she later lived as a resident until her death. At around 40 years old, Edna passed her GED, went to nursing school and served as an LPN in the Pediatric unit at Timken Mercy Hospital, then at Hartville Meadows until her retirement. In her spare time, she loved to crochet, play Scrabble with anyone willing to risk losing to her, spend time with family and friends, sit outside watching the birds and enjoying the pond and sun and - in the years when she was able - she loved to travel. In her most recent months, she just kept talking about how blessed she was. It didn't matter that she could no longer live at home, or that she constantly lost her hearing aid, teeth, glasses, etc., or that she couldn't remember what happened from one minute to the next. She was blessed because she "raised four good kids," or that the people at St. Luke's took "such good care" of her, or that her family and friends came to see her, or, if there was nothing else to mention that day, that she loved her bed and her window. And her list could go on and on. But all that knew her understand that we are the ones that are blessed to know known and been loved by this sweet, feisty, God-loving, optimistic and dear woman. Calling hours are Sunday 4-7 PM at Hartville Mennonite Church and an hour prior to services Mon (10-11 AM). Funeral services are Monday 11 AM in the church with pastors Ross Miller and Henry Shrock officiating. Final resting place is the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mennonite Central Committee. www.mcc.org
