Edmund John Ferring Jr., 75, of Kingwood, Texas was called to his heavenly home January 23, 2015. He was born March 5, 1939 in Evanston, Illinois to parents Ed and Margaret Ferring. John graduated from Reagan High School in 1957. During the Vietnam War era John joined the Air Force and served as a meteorologist during his tour of duty which took him to Mildenhall, Suffolk County, England. On his return to the states John attended the University of Houston and worked as a computer programmer for 31 years for Houston Light and Power. In March of 1985, after a four month courtship, John married the love of his life, Barbara Sue Duff. John and Barbara went on to share a loving and blessed relationship of 29 years. John was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood for 29 years where he thrived in his service to others. With abiding faith in God he battled Parkinson's disease for 25 years, refusing to see the limitations and determined to live each day courageously and on his own terms. His choices and resilience in the face of his daily challenges inspired every one he met to live fully and positively. Generous beyond all measure John loved well and in return was a loved and treasured friend to so many. With a sense of adventure John enjoyed traveling the states, traveling abroad and cruising the seas. John was an avid golfer and lifelong bowler. John loved to eat and entertain and happiest when surrounded by his friends and family. John is survived by his wife, Barbara, sisters Jean Burns and Carol Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Tuesday, January 27th at Kingwood Funeral Home. THEN CALLING HOURS ARE SCHEDULED THURSDAY, JANUARY 29th 11 AM- 12:30 PM AT ARNOLD FUNERAL HOME CANTON. A SERVICE WILL BE CONDUCTED AT 12:30 PM IN THE ARNOLD FUNERAL HOME WITH REV. DR. BRUCE MONT OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE AT FOREST HILL CEMETERY,CANTON WITH MILITARY HONORS. Next week, a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 3rd at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood at 4:00PM.
