IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edith
Marks
February 25, 1918 – September 4, 2013
EDITH MARKS, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 in her home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on 2-25-18 to parents Louis and Sylvia Sacks, Edith attended John Adams High School and Flora Stone Mather College graduating with a degree in Library Science. After graduation she worked for the U.S. Government in Washington D.C. before returning to Cleveland where she met and married her husband Herbert in October of 1943. They shared a long and loving marriage for 62 years prior to Herbert's passing. Edith served her community in various positions, perhaps the most gratifying position being that of first female President of Temple Israel in 1977. She also served as President of Temple Israel Sisterhood and was active in Hadassah and the Canton Jewish Federation. Both Edith and Herbert were avid golfers and long-time members of the former Arrowhead Country Club where they shared many happy times with family and friends. Upon her husband's retirement they divided their time between Canton and West Palm Beach, FL. In 2005 they decided it was time to move closer to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and settled in a retirement community in Scottsdale, Arizona. However, they always considered Canton as "home". Edith was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Herbert, and is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws Nancy and Robert Wilson, Jane and Bruce Myers, grandchildren Brian Myers and Stacey and Philip Goldie, great grandchildren Kylie and Cade Myers and Caitlin and Charlotte Goldie. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 10 , 2013 at 10 am at Temple Israel, Beit Ha'am, 432-30th St NW, Canton, OH 44709 with Rabbi Jon Adland and Rabbi John Spitzer officiating . Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Herbert and Edith Marks Foundation of Temple Israel, to Jewish Family Services Homecare - attn.: Eric Kaye, 4747 N. 7th Street, Suite 100 - Phoenix, AZ 85014, or to the charity of your choice.
