Dr. Earl W. Blumer, age 77 of North Canton passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born February 12, 1932 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Earl was raised in Sacramento and San Francisco California. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkley and his Doctor of Osteopathy from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Blumer was a family practice physician serving Stark County since 1963. He served as Chief of Staff at Doctor's Hospital where he also served as president of the Board for seven years. During the Korean War he served in the 538th Combat Engineers Group. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores Blumer and a daughter, Susan Gullett and half brother, David Grapentine. Survivors include his wife, Mary M. Blumer; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Dan and Deborah Blumer, Dr. Scott and Lucy Blumer all of Jackson Township; grandchildren, Zachary, Sarah and Jacob Blumer; step children, Ann Richards, Thomas Kolopus, Elizabeth Wood, Timothy Kolopus and Jennifer (Jerry) Vydra and two beautiful cats. A memorial service will be Friday 3:00 p.m. in the Arnold Funeral Home, Canton with Aaron Richards officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service 1-3:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Stark County Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
