Reverend Douglas Allen Patton entered the gates of Heaven on Tuesday July 10, 2018 into the open arms of his Lord and Savior and the welcoming arms of his dear wife, June. Doug was born on August 28, 1945 in Bethesda, Maryland to Luther and Bina Patton. He received his bachelors degree from the University of Maryland his theological training at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, Massachusetts, and was awarded a Masters of Divinity Degree. Following his ordination in 1970, Reverend Patton accepted a call to Calvin East United Presbyterian Church in Detroit, Michigan as Associate Pastor. In 1973 he joined the staff of Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton, Ohio as Associate Pastor. In 1982 he became the Head Pastor of John Knox Presbyterian Church, North Canton, Ohio which he faithfully served until his retirement in 2010. Doug is survived by his children, Christy Smith and David Patton. Grandchildren: Christian, Elizabeth, William, Joshua and Austin David Smith. Cody (Cyndi), Xavior, Laura, Isaiah, Alexis and Malachi Patton. Great-grandchildren: Oliver and Mila Patton. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Marian Patton, his Virginia cousins, and June's siblings: Glen (Judy) Garner, Lynn (Joe) Beczak, Beth (Mike) Gibbons, John Garner and Yancey (Mary) Garner and many nieces and nephews, He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry Patton, step-father Rich Richardson his brother-in-law Curt Garner, and his beloved wife of 43 years Dr. June Garner Patton. The Family would like to thank St Luke's Lutheran Home, Canton Christian Home and Community Hospice for their kindness and care of their father. Doug was a devoted and obedient servant of Jesus Christ. He dedicated his life to serving his Lord, his church, his family and his community. He was Chaplain of the Jackson Township Fire Department, Chaplain of the Jackson High School Football Team. Member of the Stark County Crisis Intervention Team. Moderator of the Muskingum Valley Presbytery. Member of Rotary, and the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club. He served on the boards of many organizations and received numerous awards during his life. Doug was well loved and respected by his colleagues, family and friends. He was voted as one of the Most Influential Men of Stark County and is listed on Stark County's Wall of Fame. Rev Patton will be missed by the congregations he served and the lives he touched through his ministry. In his own words: "My faith is expressed through a steadfast, sincere, and caring spirit!" Those are the words he lived by. Matthew 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Calling hours will be July 19 from 4-7:00 PM at John Knox Presbyterian Church. Memorial service will be Friday July 20 at 11:00 AM at Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev David de Vries officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the June G.
