Obituary

Douglas Claud Parsons, 70, of Canton, OH, went home to be with His Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, December 22, 2014, in the Aultman Compassionate Care Center. He was born on Jan. 3, 1944, in Ypsilanti, MI to Marshall Benson Parsons and Virginia Mary Green Parsons. He married Linda Anne (Bentz) Parsons on March 21, 1964. Doug was preceded in death by his father, brothers; Pastor Kenneth Parsons and Marshall Benson Parsons, Jr. and his sister; Virginia Kay Parsons. He is survived by his mother; sisters; Dr. Wanda Parsons Reygaert (Jim) of Auburn Hills, MI, and Diane Bugg of Taylors, SC. Doug's survivors also include three sons, Steven Douglas Parsons; James Ralph (Elizabeth) Parsons; David William (Dana) Parsons; and a daughter, Laura Anne Parsons Lytle. Doug graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1961 and from Malone College in 1967. He worked for GE, Timken Company, Goodyear Aerospace, Loral Corporation, Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in the computer field. Doug took early retirement in 2001, because of health problems. In 2004 he was diagnosed with a rare disease, FTD (Frontotemporal Degeneration or Frontotemporal Dementia). He is one of six people who are being featured in a documentary, which was filmed in the fall of 2014. His story is told in a book, "I Can't Hear the Music Anymore, One Family's Journey with Frontotemporal Dementia". Doug was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Louisville, OH, and the East Ohio Emmanuel Emmaus Community. He loved art and music and played violin and viola in high school. Doug sang in church and community choirs, and was a soloist. He enjoyed golf and bowling and was in company leagues. Our family would like to thank Aultman Hospice and the staff at McKinley Health Care Center for their loving care of Doug and our family. A Celebration of Doug's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday in Peace United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Conley officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call on Sunday 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. Canton. and one hour prior to the service in church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Peace United Methodist Church 5520 Ravenna Ave. N.E. Louisville, Ohio 44641 or Aultman Compassionate Care Center 2821 Woodlawn Ave N.W. Canton, Ohio 44708.
