Obituary
Dorothy Ann (Tolbert) Hilgert-Wasil, age 74, of Canton, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2018. She was born on September 23, 1943 in Canton, graduated from Lehman High School in 1960, and enjoyed a long standing career in retail at Oneil's and Macy's department stores in the Canton Center Mall. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carolyn and Roy Tolbert, Sr.; brother, Roy Tolbert, Jr., and her late husband William Hilgert with whom she had three daughters. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Alex Wasil; three daughters, Dr. Belinda Zimmerman, Melissa Hilgert, Amy (Jacob) Thomas; step-daughter, Wendy Wasil; step-sons Charlie and James Wasil; sister, Sue (Tom) Lyon; brother Bill (Mary) Tolbert; sister-in-law Jackie Tolbert; special friends of her daughters Doug Adams, Fred Klingaman, Lenny Lott, and many nieces and nephews. True to her devotion and to love of animals, she also leaves behind her cherished kitties Noni and Tutu, and her treasured grand-cats and grand-dogs. Dorothy was a sports enthusiast, and took great pride and pleasure in cheering on the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers. She delighted in music, and dancing with her husband was a favorite pastime. The family expresses deep gratitude and appreciation for the kindness and expertise of Dorothy's doctor, Jeffrey Marsh, M.D., and the loving care of the entire staff at the Aultman Hospice Compassionate Care Center. In honor of her wishes, Dorothy will be cremated, and a "Celebration of Life" visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. followed by a brief prayer service from 7 -7:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Aultman Hospice Compassionate Care Center or the Stark County Humane Society.
