Dorothy Frances Russell, 88, passed away on December 30, 2007 after a brief illness. The second eldest of seven brothers and one sister, she was born on a farm in Johnson County, Kansas to Frank and Ruby Perkins. After graduating from high school, she attended business school in Kansas City then moved to San Francisco where she went to work as a bookkeeper for an insurance company. When WWII broke out, San Francisco became a major embarkation point for servicemen headed to the Pacific. Among them was the man who would become her future husband, Ralph Russell-then manager and eventual owner of the Palace Theatre Corp. in Canton-who was serving aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Sitkoh Bay. They married in 1946 and moved to Canton where Dorothy became a successful banking executive at First National, and later First Federal and was active in many civic organizations. In her spare time, she was an auction devotee and a keen buyer of antique linens, jewelry and fine china. She was also an accomplished needlepoint artist. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband and four bothers, William, Max, Raymond and Staff Sgt. Earl Perkins, a Bronze Star recipient who was KIA in Germany in 1944. She leaves behind two children, Marsha, a designer, who is married to Lee Tawes and lives in New York, and Neil, a writer and producer who lives with his wife, Sandra, in California; two grandchildren, Andrew Russell, a New York investment banker, and Trevor Russell, a Mississippi restaurant owner. She is also survived by three brothers, Clyde, Donald and Allen Perkins, all of Kansas and a sister, Donna Ruder who resides in South Carolina. Services will be private.
