Dorothy E. Peterson Our wonderful mother and grandmother, Dorothy Elizabeth Peterson of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully at age 94, from complications of living a long and loving life. Born in Salem, Ohio, she was a graduate of Carrolton High School where she met her eternal companion, Charles Guess Peterson. Dorothy attended two years at Kent State University and taught grade school in Carrolton, Ohio. Charles and Dorothy were married in 1938 and moved to Canton, Ohio to establish a practice of optometry. She was a devoted wife as well as very supportive of her husband's private practice of over 40 years. The three great loves of her life were first and always her husband and second, her two daughters and grand children and third their travels together as a family. Sandy and Nancy cherish their time together with such a devoted mother. She was a faithful member of Church of the Savior United Methodist, an active member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter BL, and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #190. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth (Matilda) Westfall and William Westfall of Salem, Ohio, sister, Gladys Jewell of Columbus and brothers, William Westfall of Denver and Earl Westfall of Ohio and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Dettore of Pittsburgh. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Sandra Peterson Fitzurka of Pittsburg and Port Orange, Florida and Nancy Peterson-Klein of Mecosta, MI.; sons- in law Michael Fitzerka and Matthew A Klein; grandchildren; John P. Uniacke (Amy) of Tampa, Florida, C. Jeremy Uniacke (Amy) of Royal Oak, MI, William Hinds of California and great grand children; Alayna B. Uniacke and Kayla Dettore. Dorothy is preceded in death by Charles (Chick), her husband of over 55 years. The family wishes to express thanks to the many caregivers in the Special Needs unit at Belden Inn for their loving and tender care of Dorothy. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. with a private interment to follow in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 6 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Dorothy may be sent to the Mercy Hospice 7568 Whipple Ave., N.W. Canton, OH 44720, Alzheimer's Association 4815 Munson St., N.W. Canton, OH 44718 or the PEO International Loan Fund, Cottey College.
