Obituary

Dorothy A. Newport Forbush, age 90 of Austintown, formerly of the Waterford died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 12th. Preceded in death by her husband Albertus Henry Forbush Sr.; sister, Mildred Ridge; brothers, Howard and Vern Newport; and grandson, Albertus Henry Forbush III. Dorothy is survived by daughters: Catherine (Robert) Voss and Margaret (David) Crawford, sons: John, Albertus Jr. (Sandra), and Paul Forbush, 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Dorothy was born in Austintown, Ohio, September 20, 1921, and raised of a farm in Williamsfield, Ohio , the youngest daughter of Hazel and John Newport. She graduated Williamsfield High School in 1939. She married Albertus (Al) Forbush, son of life-long family friends, Margaret and Bert Forbush on October 9, 1943. They sailed to Honolulu , Hawaii October 18, 1943. From 1943 to 1947, her husband, Al, was employed as a welder in the Shipyards at Pearl Harbor Naval Base and Dorothy worked at the Shipyards as a bookkeeper. After the war, they remained in Hawaii where they awaited the birth of their eldest, Catherine. They were joined there by close family. Returning the Austintown, Ohio , they had 4 more children: Margaret, John, Albertus Jr., and Paul. Dorothy returned to her vocation as a bookkeeper, working with her husband, Al, to found Forbush Machine Co. Never one to be idle, she was also employed at Stambaugh-Thompsons, Super-X, Perkins, and Jacks Battery and Electric in Youngstown. She resided in Austintown until 2007 when she moved to the Waterford at ST. Lukes in North Canton.She was active in the Choir and the Flower Committee at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cornersburg. Dorothy was also a member in good standing of Ida McKinley Chapter 229, Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, and playing 500 Bid. Over the years, the family home abounded with numerous cats and dogs. Her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchild were a joy and delight to her, and she was always available to babysit. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, who together with friends, all gathered to celebrate her 90th birthday this past September. Funeral Service will be Wednesday 3:30 p.m. at the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW; with Rev. Mark Williams Officiating. Internment will be private for the family. Friends may call Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, PO Box 78960 Phoenix , AZ 85062.
