Dorothy Marie Helfer (Nee McBee) of The Villages, Florida, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at age 90. Born June 24, 1922 in Knox County Kentucky to Granville Lee and Dollie Adabelle (Burk) McBee, Dorothy was the seventh of ten children all of whom she outlived. Dorothy moved to Uniontown, Ohio in 1992 and has been snow birding to Florida from Ohio and Michigan since 2003. She then became a permanent Florida resident in 2011. She loved her family, her nieces & nephews, her church, collecting Precious Moments Figurines, butterflies, anything purple and playing "UPWORDS". She went to Detroit, Michigan during WWII to work in the defense plants where she met her future husband Hubert Elmo Helfer who predeceased her in 1993 after 47 years of marriage. She continued as a factory worker her entire career. She is survived by two sons, Lee (Carol) Helfer of The Villages, Florida, Norman (Sandy) Helfer of Holt, Michigan; two step-sons Jerry (Wanda) Helfer of Warren, Michigan, Glynn (Pam) Helfer of Sterling Heights, Michigan; and one step-daughter Sandra Samu of Clinton Township, Michigan. She has 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. One step-son Lloyd (Lee) Helfer preceded her in death. Calling hours are Thursday December 27th from 6-8:00 PM and Friday December 28th an hour prior to services (9-10:00 AM) in the Greensburg Church of God. Funeral services are Friday 10:00 AM in the Greensburg Church of God with Pastor Michael LeMay officiating. Interment will be in Mount Peace Cemetery in Hartville.
