Donald Thompson

Donald C. Thompson, age 97, of Columbus, Dayton and previously Canton, Ohio died on September 27, 2026. He was born in Youngstown on May 27, 1929, to Howard and Sarah (Chase) Thompson and following graduation from high school enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for over 9 years. Don served between WWII and the Korean War and was stationed in Mississippi, Europe, and California. Following his honorable discharge, he relocated back to Ohio where he began a career in the insurance industry spending time with Nationwide Insurance and later as an Independent Agent. Don was known for his outgoing personality and was never one to meet a stranger. He also had a passion for sports and loved following the Buckeyes, Browns, and Indians, if there was a game on, he was paying attention. Don also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and supporting them in all their endeavors.

Don is preceded in death by his first wife Bonnie and second wife Jo and siblings James and Bonnie.

He is survived by his children Russell (Kelley) Thompson, Martin (Tabatha) Metzon, and Ellen (Ty) Hayden; grandchildren Jason (Heather) Thompson, Jacquelyn (Kaleb) Torbet; Joshua Metzon, Courtney Metzon, and Chase (Chloe) Hayden; great grandchildren Amelia, Jocelyn, Violet, Hadlie, and Brooks.

Private services will take place at North Lawn Cemetery in Canton, Ohio.
