IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Derek Dylan
Heisler
January 11, 1988 – March 30, 2017
Derek Dylan Heisler was born on January 11, 1988. Derek was a bright and shining light. A friend to all. A child whose imagination could transfer you anywhere and an adult who never made anyone feel less than family. Growing up, his siblings & his cousins were his best friends. In fact, he was everybody's best friend. He leaves behind the love of this life, his beautiful daughter, Rylee, heartbroken sisters, Jessica & Amanda, and devastated parents Pamela & Brian. At last Derek is at peace, he struggles no more. The disease of addiction thrives in darkness and must be defeated in the light. He will be missed more than words can ever express. Derek died of a drug over dose on March 30, 2017. We write this not to dishonor his memory but to shine some light on an illness that is taking the lives of far too many. If we allow shame, guilt, or embarrassment to cause this illness to become a dark family secret, hiding in the shadows, everyone loses. Derek now joins the ever expanding list of fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren taken far too soon by this growing healthcare epidemic. But please remember Derek isn't just a statistic, he was our sunshine. Therefore it is important to remember Derek wasn't just his illness. He was our son, our friend. Words can not describe how much he will be missed. Anyone who reads this is welcome to join us on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 2 PM at First Christian Church, 6900 Market Ave. N, Canton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you discuss the devastating effects of drug use and addiction with the children in your life.
