Obituary

Darrell W. Vanest, age 68, of Canton passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 8, 2025. He was born on September 3, 1956, to Onward and Shirley (Halbert) Vanest and attended Timken High School. Darrell spent well over 40 years working as the Maintenance Director and Kitchen Supervisor for Shaaray Torah Synagogue. He was a passionate follower of the Pittsburgh Steelers and time would stop for kickoff each Sunday. Darrell also enjoyed following the Guardians and recently the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was a fiercely loyal husband to his late wife, Patricia, who passed away in 2023 and visited her grave daily. He was a great dad, never missing a sporting event or school event for his children and grandchildren, and he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his soon-to-be born great grandson, Dean Vanest.

Darrell is preceded in death by wife Patricia, his parents, granddaughter Abigail, step-father Lee Javins, brother Doug Vanest, and sisters Josephine Blakley and Sandy Murray. He is survived by his children Darrell (fiancée April) Vanest, Danny (Cindy) Vanest, and Amy Vanest (Jacob); grandchildren Darren, Zayne, Taylor, Dylan, Devyn, Hanna, Brooke, and Tyler; siblings Bonnie (Jerry) Wilson, Terry (Brenda) Vanest, and Peggy Clendenin; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday, January 13, 2025, from 12-1 PM at Beit Ha'am 432, 30th Street NW, funeral services will be at 1 PM with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating and Rabbi David Komerofsky officiating.  Final resting place is Calvary Cemetery.
