IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clyde N.
Minnis
August 31, 1933 – March 11, 2019
Clyde N. Minnis was born on August 31, 1933 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 11, 2019 at the age of 85.
He was born to Clyde R. and Helen Minnis, at home, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Clyde Robert. No, this is not a mistake. Both brothers were named Clyde, after their father. They grew up as Jack (Clyde Robert) and Sonny (Clyde Neal).
Clyde is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine (Jerri); sons, Scott (Shelly), Steven (Kim) and Clyde Robert and two grandchildren, Amanda Minnis and Brent Minnis.
Clyde a.k.a. Sonny, grew up in Trafford, Pennsylvania, right down the road from Turtle Creek. He was quite an athlete in his youth. He was offered a football scholarship, but instead chose to join the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Shortly after completing his military service he met the love of his life, Geraldine, to whom he was married for 62 years. They moved to their current home in North Canton in 1965 where, together, they raised their three sons, Scott, Steve and Clyde. Clyde was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church and cherished his church family.
A little known fact is that Clyde had a modeling career, with his face and hand in various ads. Clyde was also an excellent ping pong player and pool player. His biggest weakness with regard to these two games was that he would throw the game and allow his opponent to win.
Clyde always had a smile on his face and he never met a stranger. He loved the Lord, serving the Lord, his family, praying and reading the gospel, playing practical jokes and eating Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies. His favorite songs were "Amazing Grace", "As the Deer" and "The Solid Rock".
Clyde will continue to be loved and live in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Grace Baptist Church with Rev. David Ryan officiating. A private interment will be held for the family in Plain Township Cemetery (Mt. Pleasant Cemetery). There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers please donate to Grace Baptist Church, 5050 Middlebranch Ave NE, Canton, OH 44705. Please sign the guest book.
