Clinton D. Firestone

Mr. Clinton DeWitt Firestone III, 81, a lifelong entrepreneur and longtime proprietor in the rubber mulch industry, died Saturday, August 15, 2026, in La Grange, Illinois.

Clinton was born in Akron, Ohio, on October 14, 1944, the son of Major Clinton DeWitt Firestone Jr. and Mary Virginia Firestone, née Bader. Clint and his five siblings lived both in the United States and abroad until his father completed his service with the United States Air Force in 1949.

Clinton served in the United States Marine Corps before following his father into the family tire industry. He later pursued private business interests, beginning a career that brought him true joy.

In his later years, Clinton enjoyed traveling with his family, weekly lunches with his siblings, carrying forward the traditions of generations past, and making new memories with his grandson, Theodore. While an Akronite at heart, he lived in Chicago most of his life. Clinton happily spent the final five years of his life seasonally residing in his cherished hometown. He took great pride in sharing family tales and stories of Akron’s past with younger generations, celebrating the beauty, resilience, and grit upon which the city was built.

Clinton’s brother, Joseph Amor, passed away just 30 days before him. Those who knew Clinton understood that his heart was deeply tied to family, and the loss of his brother was a sorrow he carried in his final days.

Generous, sentimental, and spirited, Clinton had a way of making life memorable, and his kindness often reached people in ways they would never forget. He will be remembered for his faith, distinct humor, compassion, love of history, and enduring devotion to family.

He is survived by his daughter, Victoria; son, Clinton DeWitt IV; grandson, Theodore; brother, Benjamin; sisters, Suzanne and Mary Beth; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

In addition to his brother Joseph Amor, he was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stephen Anthony.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Sebastian Parish, 476 Mull Avenue, Akron, Ohio. Interment in Columbiana, Ohio, will be private.
