Obituary

Clarence L. Snyder, age 85, of Plain Township died peacefully in his residence with his family by his side early Thursday morning Jan. 9, 2014. Born in Canton to the late Lloyd & Mary (Sollie) Snyder (Friedman) he was a life resident. Clarence was a 1947 graduate of McKinley High School. A Navy Veteran of the Korean War he was a member of the Plain Township Fire Department retiring as Chief in 1993, with over 40 years of service. He had also worked at Union Metal Manufacturing for 30 years. Clarence was a member of Little Flower Catholic Parish, Member and Past President of Stark County Fire Chiefs Assoc., Member of Ohio and International Fire Chiefs Assoc., American Legion Post 44, and was a member of Plain Township Rotary where he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, for his dedication and commitment to the residents of Plain Township. Clarence was also a co-founder of Plain Local Midget Football Assoc. which he coached for many years, he also coached for St. Joseph's and the McKinley Freshman teams. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Conner and Callie Stevic. Survivors include his wife of 65 years: Marie (Schaffer) Snyder of the residence. Two daughters: Cindy (Byron) Knight of Alliance, and Denise (James) Stevic of N. Canton. Two sons: John (Connie) and Donald (Deborah) Snyder all of Plain Township. Nine grandchildren: Amy (Vince) Miller, John (Cindy) Matthew, Renee and Lauren Snyder, John, Christian and Anna Stevic, and Christine Haddox. Two great grandchildren: Brandon and Alyssa Snyder. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 in Little Flower Catholic Parish with Fr. Donald L. Feicht as officiant. Interment will be in Henry Warstler Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 P.M. in the Church Hall at Little Flower Catholic Parish. Firefighters Memorial Service will be on Sunday at 6:00 P.M.
