Cheryl "Cherie" Lynn George

Cheryl Lynn "Cherie" George, age 78, of Canton, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 18th, 2026.

She was born on February 25, 1948, at Aultman Hospital in Canton to the late Wilbur "Webb" and Enid Hammond. Cheryl spent her life rooted in the Canton community she loved.

Funny, kind, and generous of spirit, Cheryl loved deeply. She was a remarkable baker who was particularly famous for her incredible desserts, and nothing brought her more joy than hosting the extended family for holidays, birthdays, and celebrations. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and gathering.

Above all, Cheryl was deeply proud of her children and grandchildren. She was their fiercest supporter, showing up to soccer games, softball games, and band concerts as much as was humanly possible to cheer them on. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was blessed with the arrival of her newest great-granddaughter, born just one day before her passing.

Cheryl is survived by her sister, Susie; and her three sons, Jeff George, Adam George and his wife Abbey, and Ben George and his wife Kate. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Casidy George, Jaylee Hahn and her husband Ethan, Levi George, Ezekiel George, Abram George, Amelia George, and Arthur George; and her two beloved great-grandchildren, Charlotte Hahn and Genevieve Hahn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Larry Hammond; and her sister, Joan Hess.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Cheryl's life at Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas St. West, Canton, OH 44702. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 23rd, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place at the church on Friday, July 24th, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Wallace officiating.
