Charles F. Hess, JR, age 83 of Canton passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015 in the Laurels of Canton. Charles was born September 2, 1931 in Canton to Charles and Helen (Potter) Hess, graduated from Lehman High School in 1949, attended Colgate University, graduated from Dennison University and was a Korean War Veteran. Mr. Hess owned and operated Taggarts from the Mid 1950's through the Mid 1980's and also operated Cranston's. Charles loved boating and spent many years as a "live aboard captain" on his sailboat "Escapade" on the South East Coast. He was also an Eagle Scout, animal lover and spent leisure time hiking and camping. He was passionate about history, particularly WWII and the American Revolutionary War. Mr. Hess was a member of Church of the Covenant. He is survived by two sons, Charles F. Hess III of Chicago, Christopher Hess of Canton; granddaughters, Kristen Hess of Canton and Brittany (Bryan) McMaster of North Lawrence. Preceded in death by a sister Nancy Hess in 2012. A memorial service will be Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. C. David Morgan officiating. Private interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
