IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles E.
Cummins
October 14, 1934 – January 12, 2012
Charles Everett Cummins, 77, passed away on January 12, 2012, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness. He is survived by Marcia, his loving and devoted wife of nearly 55 years, his son Mark (Ann) of Manchester, and his four daughters Kathy (Mark) Bearer of Bath, Denise (James) Mitchell of Canal Fulton, Diane (Jeff) Salamon of Portage Lakes, and Dana (Paul) Janini of Green. He also leaves his fourteen grandchildren, Luke, Eileen, Colleen and Grant Cummins; Christine and Michael Bearer; Steven and Kevin Mitchell; Alexander, Jacob and Christian Salamon; and Charles, Daniel, and Edward Janini. He was preceded in death by his father Cecil Cummins, mother Elsie, stepmother Stefi, brother John and sisters Sally Hamilton and Patricia Rodriguez. Chuck was born in Elwood City, Pennsylvania and was a resident of Manchester, Ohio since his youth. Chuck was a graduate of Manchester High School and of The University of Akron, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial Management. After his high school graduation, Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War era. He was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he completed Cold Weather and Mountain Warfare training, served on ski patrol and served stateside as a radio operator. After his discharge from the service, Chuck began what was to become a 43 year career at The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron. He rose from a machine operator on the "squad" making hose to a shift foreman, a supervisor and eventually an Area Manager in the Air Springs Division. In honor of his dedicated service to Goodyear, he was rewarded upon retirement with a lengthy and memorable ride on the Goodyear Blimp. He never drove on anything but Goodyear tires! Chuck met and fell in love with Marcia, a registered nurse, and they were married in July of 1957. Together they devoted their lives to creating a loving family in the Catholic faith. Chuck enjoyed planting and tending his backyard garden; no matter the soil, he could grow anything! He loved listening to the music of Fats Domino and reading Zane Grey westerns. Chuck coached and umpired youth softball and baseball, and umpired high school baseball for many years. All of his favorite activities revolved around family, especially family vacations. Chuck and Marcia enjoyed many happy vacations with their children in Canada on the Muskoka Lakes and at the Erie Islands. He loved to fish for Lake Erie walleye and for Canadian perch and bass at Lake Rousseau in his boat The Seven Cs. When the grandchildren were born, Chuck and Marcia organized over 20 years of summer family vacations at Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina. Above all, Chuck was a kind, patient, unselfish and generous husband, father and grandfather who set an example for his family of what love means. Special thanks to Dr. Dar, Dr. Husain, Dr. Mayors, Dr. Hazra, Dr. Rinaldi and all of the nurses at Summa Barberton Citizens Hospital. Friends may call Sunday 2-5 PM at Arnold Funeral Home, 504 W. Maple St., Hartville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11:30 AM at St. Francis DeSales Parish, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron with Fr. G. David Bline celebrant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington D.C. 20090-6011 in memory of Charles E. Cummins.
