Charlene Longenecker
(Foulks) Poulos
September 8, 1931 – October 26, 2022
Charlene Foulks Longenecker Poulos, age 91, a retired executive Secretary, went home to Jesus on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in Canton. She was preceded in death by her husband L Ray Longenecker, her oldest son Mark Donald Longenecker and her parents, Mary Johnston Foulks and Marion R. Foulks. She is survived by her sons, Scott M. Longenecker and Kurt B. Longenecker of Canton; grandchildren, Mark Michael (Becca) Longenecker, Tia, Steven Longenecker, Samuel and Scott (Kara) Longenecker all of Erie, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Lehman High School in 1949, she worked for Dime Bank and Canton National Bank before marrying Ray Longenecker. Following the birth of her three sons she returned to work at A.C. Eynon Company as a secretary. She became a member of the National Secretaries Association (International)/Professional Secretaries International and obtained her CPS (Certified Professional Secretary) rating in 1976. She then became the executive secretary to David Bracken, president of Danner Press. She held various offices in CODI chapter of PSI and was later a member of the Coral Gables, Florida, chapter of PSI. In 1980 she married John Poulos and they moved to Miami, Florida, living there for 13 years, where she worked for Batch/Greenwich Air Services for seven years. Her last secretarial position was at Plymouth Congregational Church in Coconut Grove (Miami). In 1993, after experiencing Hurricane Andrew, they retired and moved to Dunnellon, Florida, living there for 11 years. In 2004, she returned to Canton where she attended Church of the Lakes. She presented programs on "The Art of Good Housekeeping" and "Bringing up Babies," both set in the 1920's, to various groups in the surrounding area. She had been a volunteer at the National First Ladies Library, a member of Stark County and North Canton Friends of the Library, chairman of her Lehman High School class of 1949 reunion, and was active in a Bible study and other activities she enjoyed.
Calling hours will be Monday October 31, 2022, 12 Noon-1:00 at the Arnold Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave NW. where services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian George officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
